Just a quick note really. I’ve been playing around with the idea of purchasing the domain for this blog, but the “dot com” domain is already a fully functional website and has been for a while. So to not cause any confusion even with another “dot whatever” at the end, I’ve decided to change the name of the blog entirely. The new name will be jazzataltitude.wordpress.com. The focus will remain the same, that being my love of jazz in the Denver metro area and Colorado. I’ve also played around with different themes and I think I’ve finally found one that I’m happy with, though don’t quote me on that just yet.
I’ve got a couple of ideas for the future of the blog and a tiny project that I am currently working on and I hope will come out the way I hope in the coming weeks. So stayed tuned for updates on that.
The changing of files from this blog to the new is going on as we speak, so nothing will be missing and I will continue along forward. So please if like this blog, follow it or know someone who might like it, please follow me over to http://www.jazzataltitude.wordpress.com. Thank you for your continued support.
What else would you expect to be honest? This was the first time I’ve attended one of these events and it is absolute proof of the tremendous support the jazz community gives to not only the school system here in Denver, but to the community as a whole. I would highly suggest that you make time to check out what the future of jazz has in store. A $10 donation and about 90 mins of your time and I guarantee that you will enjoy yourself. There were 3 area schools represented tonight, from 4th grade up through high school, each group performing 3 pieces. As well as a performance by the faculty that lead our future jazz musicians. Do yourself a favor, have a good time and donate to a great cause! Thank you to The Gift of Jazz!
Unfortunately my camera has come up missing, so I had to resort to using my phone and nearly all of the photos came out less than desirable. This is the best photo I was able to get tonight. This is of the CEC Jazz Combo from East High School, under the direction of Ron Jolly.
So tonight after returning home from the DPS Jazz Night over at the Crossroads Theater, I was listening to Josh Quinlan’s latest release, Open Space. I went over to his website and came across this festival coming up in a little over 3 weeks that I figured you should know about if you didnt already. Having been away from here for a while, I’m playing catch up on a lot of things happening in the jazz world here, so this is the first time I’ve heard of this festival. It’s a free event, and looks to be a great time!
I did add a listing and link for this event on the “Festivals” page as well, along with the Mile High Jazz Festival coming up in January 2014.
Two weeks from today The Gift of Jazz will be presenting Denver Public Schools Night on November 14th at the Crossroads Theater. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. Show starts at 7pm. This will be a great event!
The Denver Jazz Fest is happening in it’s first year on October 5th at the National Western Complex Events Center. Showtime is from 1:45-10pm. Artists include Kenny Lattimore, Hiroshima, Tower of Power, Brian Culbertson and more! Tickets run between $47 and $97.
One of my favorite festivals is taking place this weekend up in Niwot. Jazz on 2nd Ave is in it’s 3rd year has grown tremendously after the first two years, and if it’s anything like last year, it should be a blast! Trust me, you definitely do not want to miss this festival!
Festivities kick off tonight with a free lecture and concert at 8pm and then Saturday is the big show starting at 11am and runs until 10pm. Featured artists include.
Two great reasons to get outdoors and enjoy some sunshine and some great jazz are happening this weekend in Winter Park at the Winter Park Jazz Festivaltaking place Saturday and Sunday and the Longmont Jazz Festival taking place Saturday from 11am-6:30pm.
